I had a similar microwave to this present one for a few years. I was happy with it so, when it gave up the ghost about 18 months ago , I sought a similar replacement. The original had one repeated aggravation. It too was a GE 1100 watt counter top model and, about once a month it popped the 15 amp circuit breaker. First thing I did was swap the circuit breaker for a new one, but it still did it. I then checked out the socket, the connections at both ends, etc., all fine. When I got this new model, almost identical, I thought my circuit breaker popping would be over. Unfortunately such is not the case.
This is an 1100 watt model but the rear label says power consumption is 1500 watt. It seems as though the power consumption is very close to the circuit breaker limit such that the odd surge pops it. I am tempted to replace the 15amp breaker with a 20amp breaker at the 200 amp panel. I would appreciate some advice about all this. Given that I get the same problem with the new one as the old, it is not the microwave oven that is faulty. Is this issue with 1100 watt models on 15 amp fuses a common one? What would be the best way to address it? It currently occurs anything from once a week to a couple of times a day depending on what modd the oven is in. The circuit that the microwave is on is totally dedicated to just the microwave - one fuse, one outlet.
