Power burner stopped working after hitting the "simmer select" button

Last night we were using our stovetop's power burner (left front) and needed to simmer something, so turned the temp all the way down to about 2. It was still boiling at a good clip (a sign perhaps?) so I pushed the simmer select button. After about 10 minutes noticed that there was no boiling or simmering.

There was no loud pop, no breaker reset.

All the other burners work fine. The oven works, the timer, clock etc is all good. But when we turn on the large front left burner the "Element on" light comes on, the Simmer select button activates the simmer select light, but the element stays cold. No relay clicking or electrical humming comes from the panel. The surface hot light never comes on.

From a bunch of googling and finding this site the likely culprit is either the Infinite Large element switch (pn 316436001) or the simmer select control board (316429301).

Anyone have a suggestion based on the info above? I have read a number of posts where people purchased one of the two, then found they still had a problem, and ended up having to replace the other. Just wondering which is the more likely culprit.

Thanks!

Stan
