I purchased this freezer from Craigslist (cheap enough to warrant it not working). No idea on the age. I'm thinking later 50's/early 60's?

I was told the plug shocked you when you plugged it in so I just got done replacing and grounding it. He stated it worked 2 years ago---he had not plugged it up again since the ground issue.
Plugged it in after GUESSING positive and neg on the wires. The compressor started up, but no fan. I came back to check on it 30 minutes later---no compressor. Inside was about 30 degrees. Turned down the temp a hair, still no compressor. Another 30 minutes and temp is up to 40 no compressor. So either it just died or it overheated (or both) Fan spins freely---but does not kick on (or not that I have seen). It seems the shelves are the cooling system I don't see any area for another fan but the bottoms of the shelves are snaked in tubing.
I REALLY want this freezer to work---but is it worth it to go search out a new compressor/fan? The compressor is a Tecumseh (I have the numbers for reference if needed)
ANY help or info would be greatly appreciated as I can't even find where this poor freezer existed!
ETA:I DID unplug it for now.
