Kenmore Washer Had Sock Stuck in Water Pump Now Won't Start

All,

This site is a wealth of information and I have used the knowledge contained to get me this far. Today was a frustrating day.

Our Sears/Kenmore 11028803890 washing machine failed a couple of weeks ago. The failure was due to a sock stuck in the water pump. I have dislodged the sock and put everything back together. The washer still will not start.

The symptom is that the washer fills but then will not spin. When I turn the dial to the point where the motor should be moving, it just hums.

To date, I have:

  1. Replaced the timer
  2. Found the sock and dislodged it
  3. Replaced the motor coupler since I had the thing taken apart anyway
  4. Bench-tested the motor using two tests found on appliance repair sites. Both tests indicated a good motor
  5. Replaced the capacitor with wires connected one way
  6. Switched the wires on the capacitor after the washer displayed the same symptoms

Is there something simple I am overlooking? I have tried giving the motor some help by spinning the basket with a screwdriver on the lid switch. The transmission moves freely as does the water pump. When I detached the motor from the transmission and water pump and ran the washer through cycles, the same humming sound is heard.

Do I have a bad motor irrespective of the successful bench test?

Thank you!
Jon
