Whirlpool Quiet Partner II - Intermittently won't start wash cycle

When I press start it will begin a fill cycle, then most times right as the wash cycle starts the washer shuts off (like a breaker tripped....but it still has power). If I press resume it will start to fill again then again it will shutoff when the wash cycle starts. This happens a few times before it finally goes into the wash cycle. Drain cycle runs fine and I can hear the float switch clicking.

I was thinking about checking/replacing the fill valve and control board - but I'd like some opinions or trouble shooting expertise first. I did check the drain check valve for clogs but didn't find anything.
