Maytag MAV6200AWW: continuously in wash, runs full duration without rinse/etc cycles

Question for the experts (Jake?) out there. I've been reading through the archives and I suspect it's the timer, but would much appreciate some input as confirmation.

Discovered clothes ridden with soap, it appears only the wash phase is running, bypassing rinse/spin/etc cycles. I can manually set the switch back to rinse and have it run from that phase, resuming the remaining phases.

It seems the lid switch and cold water source/valve frequently come up, so I'd like to exclude these as culprits. Opening/closing the lid does not appear to affect things, as just turning the switch back to rinse/desired phase does the trick. Cold water does flood in during the initial soak/wash phase, so I don't suspect any issues there...

Does the switch frequently fail? It's the 6-2605660/22003371.

Side unrelated question, as I started disassembling things, I noticed the bottom drive belt is wearing out, how often does that require replacement (as well as the gears/track system)?

Thanks all!
