My washer started making a rubbing noise during wash cycle but it worked OK.
Yesterday went to wash: it filled with water, seemed like it was trying to start to agitate but would not. Started to hum/ and smoke and cut off.
I bought a new motor and new belt and put that on. I tried to start the washer again and it did the same thing as before. It filled and tried to agitate, it hummed and smoked and cut off. I took it all apart, got the basket for the agitator out with the pulley and transmission attached, Cleaned everything and noticed the agitator still would not turn either direction. While cleaning everything and turning the basket on its side I noticed I could get the agitator to turn freely. However if I turned the basket upright it slowly (15 seconds) got impossible to turn again. It seems to be related to moving up and down on a nylon shaft at the bottom of the shaft. What is going on ? bad transmission ? Fix ?
