Kenmore Not Keeping Cold

Hi there,

I've got a funny problem with my refrigerator that I haven't quite figured out yet. I've noticed over the past month or so that my fridge and freezer were not as cold as usual. The drinks were kind of cold, the ice was kind of wet, and something seemed wrong. I turned up the thermostat and it didn't seem to make a difference. We went away for a few days for the holiday and came back to a defrosted and then half re-frosted mess.

After cleaning up, the freezer started up as normal, both fans were spinning. It ran for a long time, but after it stopped, it wouldn't seem to kick on no matter how long I left the door open. The fridge wasn't very cold, and the freezer could be colder as well.

There was some build-up of dust and pet hair on the coils in the front and I cleaned that out, but the behavior continued. The compressor is extremely hot to the touch while running. Both of the fans seem to be functioning properly. There is no frost present on the evaporator coils.

One other thing (might be normal?) I hear what sounds like a liquid noise from the evaporator coils. Best way to describe it would be if you were calling a cat very quietly. "speeeeee spee speee speee". Maybe that's bad. No idea.

Where can I test to find what's wrong?

Thanks!!
-Rick
