Awhile back (luckily I'm single, travel a ton, and don't do much laundry) my sister was doing laundry and told me "something" was wrong with my washer. When I got to my apartment, it was filled with water and didn't seem to want to drain. After some time and a bunch of dial turning is started to drain but was clicking. I took it apart hoping the coupler was broken but found nothing actually bad. I suspected the motor since I had just replaced the motor (thanks to this site!) on the dryer I bought from the same used/refurbished (ha!) place.
I found the pump a bit hard to turn manually and spun it around and around until it seemed to be easier. Since it had clicked before I hoped it was something binding inside the pump that fell out. Put it all back together to see what would happen and everything worked but the thing made a TERRIBLE electrical smell to the point of me having to leave and vent my apartment.
So it seems my transmission works, the motor works to some extent, and the pump seems functional.
How do I diagnose this thing?
