My Maytag side-by-side stopped freezing icecream a couple of weeks ago. In the past, icecream was hard to scoop with the freezer temperature set to 5. Meat is still frozen. I changed the freezer temperature to 9, but this didn't fix the problem. The compressors seems to be running 24 hours a day. I cleaned out the coils in the rear of the unit, but this didn't help. So I emptied the freezer and took off the back panel, thinking the evaporator coils were frosted up. They weren't frosted at all - they were silver. A couple of tubes coming into the coils had frost on them, but not much.
The refrigerator side seems to be as cool as normal.
Does this mean my compressor is shot and it is time for a new refrigerator?
