Hi all...
I have a Sears/Kenmore freezer, model number 106.627444.
It stopped cooling and the overload switch started clicking. The box holding the start relay/overload switch/start capacitor smelled burned.
I first replaced the start capacitor, but this did not solve the problem (the overload switch still clicks and the compressor does not kick in.)
I took out the starter relay and the overload switch. The starter relay rattles (a lot.) The overload switch does not rattle.
I tested the generator with my trusted multimeter, and the three prongs add up, so I assume the compressor is good.
I was thinking that the overload switch is good (and, in fact, is doing its job,) and that the start relay is toast. Is this a reasonable conclusion, and, if so, how do I validate that the start relay is toast.
If the start relay is toast, what start relay can I replace it with. The freezer is -- I am guessing here -- about 30 years old, so there is no parts available, and I don't know the HPs on the compressor (no plate or anything.)
Please advise.
Thanks,
pajacobsen
