Problem with Knob & Electronic Control when Selecting Wash Cycle

When I turn the knob to select the wash cycle, the lights jump randomly. In other words, I can't select the cycle that I want. The machine randomly selects the setting. If I jiggle and play with the knob, I can finally get what I want. Is this a connection issue or is the electronic control panel shot?
