GE Washer EWA5600K2WW spins with lid open

A few days ago I discovered my washer would fill and drain but would not spin or agitate. I used the information from appliance-repair-it.com to try to reset error code 7, and verify the lid switch and fuse were good. The code would not reset and the lid switch and fuse tested good. I purchase and installed a new motor. After installation the washer agitates and spins but continues to do so with the lid open. My wife informed me that that is what is was doing this before the motor went out the first time. I am now concerned that this is what damaged the first motor. I retested the lid switch and it still tested good, i am thinking about changing it out anyway. Is it possible the new motor is malfunctioning? Help please
