I have a Whirlpool Gold side by side fridge. It's just under 8 years old and its a gorgeous refrigerator. Started have problems about a month and a half ago. Fridge shuts down and defrosts. Everything works, lights, displays, etc... but compressor is off. Un plug the fridge wait 60 seconds plug it back in and compressor kicks on and cools fine. Runs great for about 2 weeks then shuts down again and defrosts everything. Had a repairman come out to look at it. it was working at the time so he just vacuumed the coils underneath and charged me $95. A week later it went dead, had him back and he wasnt sure what the problem was. He mentioned possible defrost timer. I asked him if it could be the circuit board. He asked if it had one????? I showed him where it was and he said yes thats what i think the problem is. He wanted $270 for the board plus tax and repair but he seamed unsure that it was the problem. It's a very easy job to install. I just ordered one online for $95. I am really not sure that is the problem but for the $95 I'll give it a shot.
If anyone here knows what this might be please let me know. If you think it's the circuit board thats great news. I really hate to pay a repairman again.
