Temp Controller Behavior ( Removed From System ) Question

Hello,
I need to verify the behavior of the temp controller in my bottom freezer refridge.
I've unplugged the wires and the machine is at room temp.
Starting from OFF, moving the dial towards MAX, there is no click ( to indicate ON? ) until the dial gets around 6.5.
Going the opposite direction, from MAX towards OFF, there is no click ( to indicate OFF? ) until around 1 on the dial.
I checked the resistance while doing the same test.
Going from OFF towards MAX, there is no change on the meter ( shows OPEN ) until the click at 6.5 on the dial, the meter shows 0.7 ohms. Continuing on to MAX, the resistance does not change.
Going from MAX towards OFF, there is no change in resistance until the click at 1, it shows OPEN.
I thought I would get a click near 1, some resistance reading, then a change in resistance ( increase? ) while dialing towards MAX. Then another change ( decrease? ) in resistance, until arriving at the OFF click, and now OPEN on the meter.
Any advice will be appreciated, and thanks for your time.
