kenmore washer won't advance

I have a kenmore frontload washer model 417. I have put a new timer in but it will not advance( this is number 3 and they all do the same thing). If i hand move the cycle knob it continues to work. All the cycles, water and spin cycles and speed work fine but it will not click to the next step in the wash cycle. Please share your thoughts.
