The Maytag dryer quit working again and I replaced the thermal fuse (red dot -- electric), because the old one tested "open." I didn't replace the other big one because it was still reading "continuity." I had used the Thermal Fuse Kit LA-1053.
Well the dryer came back to life, but stopped after about 15 minutes. I noticed it was very hot to the touch, especially above the heater coil assembly.
After I let the dryer cool down, I tested the heating element and it read ohms. Also neither terminal was shorting to the cage (metal ground.). My new thermal fuse was blown, again!
I checked and cleaned the lint trap, the blower fan, the exhaust piping to the wall, the piping in the wall and the exterior flap, which moved freely and all was free of obstruction.
I'm thinking I should have replaced the other large "high-limit" thermostat in the heater assembly, close to where the thermal fuse is, in the beginning.
Is this the mostly likely reason for the failed thermal fuse?
I know I must buy another Thermal Fuse Kit, but please help me correct the problem before I blow another fuse.
Thanks.
