Having a problem with my girlfriend's Maytag Performa washer. A few weeks ago, it wouldn't spin, although the water drained. I gave the the tub a spin by hand and it started working, but was noisy. It continued to be noisy, like a howl, during the spin cycle, until a few days ago, when it spun slowly, then not at all. I tipped the washer back and was able to turn the thrust bearing pulley and make the tub turn, and I can see what I think is the brake turning also. But after about a quarter turn, the brake stops turning momentarily, although the shaft still turns. As I keep turning the pulley, it gets past the "pause", and the brake turns again. I ran the washer and watched the works; the tub spun ok, but was noisy. Appreciate advice on what I should replace.
