Kenmore 80 Series lighting intermittently

I have a 110.79812990. My wife was complaining that it wasn't heating up, so I took the front off and removed the drum so I could try to start and get a good view of what was happening. Looks like when you press the start button, it only lights occasionally. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times you hat start, everything runs, but no light. After reading through the forum, I figured I would need to replace the valve coils. But I'm concerned there may be something else to fix this issue. Any ideas as to why it would only light intermittently?
