Big Woof

Hello and thank you for looking.

The Problem: Oven takes long time to start makes small fireball / explosion big woof sound upon ignition and there is a smell of gas.

The broiler is fine, top burners fine. No fluctuation in temperature was noticed prior to the problem.

I have replaced the oven ignitor a couple times over the lifespan of the oven, it uses a modular plug and is easy. I expected this to be the problem again and replaced the ignitor.
After replacement, i have the same problem. I have removed the new ignitor and metered it to draw 4.0 amps on a test circuit. Also the valve has continuity as you would expect since i said there was a smell of gas. I have not yet put the ignitor back in and tested it in the ovens real circuit. i thought i would ask here if there is known to be a current regulator in the circuit or for any other ideas first. also i did not know if 4 amps is too high of a draw ? i would not think so.

In addition, in replacing this time it was found that the modular plugs for the ignitor had melted together. I could not find the oven side to replace the plug and being quite certain that the ignitor was the problem i soldered it in place. I am now ordering some ceramic wire nuts but i would prefer to replace the modular Amp connector and restore the circuit to the original design. I am certain the melting was from not being pushed all the way through the insulation layer on the last ignitor replacement, and not due to any kind of electrical arcing.

Thank you,

GPGP
