I've read through several threads but have a different combination of symptoms than anything I've found, so hoping I can get some advice before throwing money at new parts randomly. This is a used refrigerator that I just acquired (FREE) and as far as I know the ice maker and water dispenser were never used/hooked up by the previous owner. I have hooked it up and the water dispenser works fine, but no ice from the ice maker. It has been plugged in now for about 2 1/2 days.
When I first checked it, the light in the freezer optics worked correctly: two blinks, pause, two blinks, etc. than solid when I hold in the flapper. When I go back to check it later, the light is either not coming on at all, or it will be flashing and will not go solid when I push in the flap. With some messing around, flipping the on/off switch, pushing in the door light switch, unplugging and replugging the fridge, the light will start in again with the 2 flashes, pause and solid when depressed. I have done this several times, and when I go to check later the light is no longer working again. So my first thought, replace the circuit boards.
But then.....last night I poured some water in the ice mold to see what would happen. It is frozen now and the unit has never cycled/harvested the ice. The fingers in the tray are slightly raised, pointing outward in my direction. Not sure where to go from here to test this part further.
Other things to note. The ice dispenser in the door does work (sounds like it's turning) when I press the switch on the outside of the door. I have a thermometer in the freezer and it's ranging between 0-10 degrees. (I've been adjusting the thermostat slightly to try and find the perfect 5-10 degree setting.) This is one of the sideways mounted ice makers with the ice bin in the door. Fridge was made in 2005.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
