I have been noticing water left over in the tub occasionally after a load has finished washing. Then recently the "FE" error code started occurring. From what I can tell, it looks like the "Main Wash" solenoid on the cold water inlet valve may be latching in the closed position.
I am trying to confirm this. If I unplug the electrical connector from it water contains to flow through the line that solenoid is responsible for controlling. If I squeeze on the water line to create back pressure against the solenoid it will shut off.
I tried back probing the wires coming into the connectors on the solenoids (4 of them on the cold water inlet valve for pre-wash, main wash, bleach, and steam). It looks like wires coming two both terminals read 125v when the solenoids should be closed. The "black" wire seems to stay at 125v the entire time the machine is running. However, the other wire going to each solenoid (white for main wash, grey for pre-wash, yellow for bleach, purple for steam) appear to drop down near 0 volts when the solenoid should be open. Is this correct behavior?
Also, I checked the resistance of each of the solenoids and they all gave readings in the 570-575 ohm range. I found a service manual for a similar model and it states resistance of the solenoids should be in the 0.8-1.2 kohm range.
It doesn't look like the solenoids are replaceable without replacing the entire inlet valve assembly. I want to make sure it isn't a malfunctioning control board instead of the water inlet valve.
Thanks,
Ted
