I have a Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator model #PLHS280ZAB4 on which the ice dispenser lever broke off (common problem, I’ve learned). I bought the replacement lever, part number 241681703 from RepairClinic.com and installed it. Upon reassembly, the instant the front electrical panel becomes connected, water starts flowing out of the water dispenser, non-stop. I disassembled again to ensure all the springs and electrical contacts were properly located, which they were, but nothing has fixed the problem. Disconnect the front panel and the water stops; plug in the front panel and water flows (but notably, the ice dispenser doesn’t work).
Oddly enough, but perhaps helpful in diagnosing: When first re-assembling things after replacing the ice dispenser lever, ALL the electrical worked fine, that is, the ice dispenser worked properly and the water dispenser started and stopped properly; however, I had to keep trouble-shooting because the water line was not fully inserted into the dispenser’s outlet. The water dispenser tubing was so short that it was virtually impossible to reinsert all the way, so upon activating the water lever, water poured out from edges of the front panel. I used the ice dispenser successfully (and simply did not use the water) for several days until finally I read several on-line blogs and learned the tip of removing the bottom front grill and feeding more water tubing upwards to provide slack. That allowed me to fully insert the tubing and it solved the leak problem. However, now I have the new problem that the water won’t turn off unless I unplug the front panel and the ice dispenser won’t dispense at all.
Any ideas what’s needed?? Possibly a relay switch or solenoid? Is this still a do it yourself job?
Thanks!
David
