Help! My wall oven which must be at least 30 years old stopped working suddenly. It was cooking fine Sunday and wouldn't turn on Monday. On the top panel of the oven there is 1 knob that controls both the oven and broiler, the flip clock that stopped working many moons ago I'm sure and what looks like used to be a button for an oven light.
I turned the knob past the temperature settings straight to broiler and held a fire place lighter under it (where I usually see flames) but that didn't work. The glass and handle on the door came off 3 months ago so I've been opening it with a spatula as leverage. Needless to it needs a replacement.
I don't know how to begin. My main question is: is it a gas oven or is it an electric? I had my kitchen remodeled 2 years ago and I seem to remember the contractor just sliding the oven out of the cabinet and plugging it in somewhere in the back, but I also see gas lines in the cabinet beneath the oven. Next, what am I measuring to determine the size? I see many 24'' wall ovens online but I'm not sure what that's a measurement of. I know I don't have the strength to try and pull out the oven myself so I can't get to the back but I need to know what I should be shopping for before I start looking for someone to install it. I'm almost positive I won't be able to find the parts for repair so I don't want to waste the money on a repair man, I'd prefer to just replace it.
Please Help!!!
