dishwasher 'hangs up' mid cycle and just humms....no advancing to next cycle

Hello, my Kenmore Quietguard Standard is hanging up in the middle of the wash cycle.

The initial water fill and rinse works fine (verified by opening the door and watching water spray everywhere.)

At the point in the cycle where the soap dispenser opens (mid cycle), the soap door opens, there is no water in the tub, and the soap pod just falls out and melts.

The dishwasher just humms.....no water....the tub gets really hot.....the cycle does not advance at all. If I manually advance the cycle, it will pick up and function fine at the rinse cycle where the water will come in and complete the wash.

I am suspecting the timer control module since it will not advance on it's own at this mid point. Not sure if I can meter it with my multimeter?

any help would be great.
