2001 Maytag Atlantis Not Finishing Rinsh Cycles - Craigs List for Mom

We just purchased wash/dryer off Craigs List for Mom (see below). Issue with Atlantis washer appears to happen at rinse cycle. It doesn't finish draining the rinse water and spin cloths. The issue happens in either "Normal" or "Extra" rinse selected.

Current Problem:
Our first two loads worked fine. There were no cloths, just the dissolving pellets used to clean washers.
8 of the next 11 loads left the tub either fully filled or mostly filled with rinse water. The knob ends up in the "Off" position as it should be at the end of the load. Only three loads so far seem to work fine.

Current Fix:
We have been turning the knob to a Spin cycle which drains the water and spins the cloths.

Other Issues:
  1. The washer doesn't seem to spin cloths very fast. They come out somewhat wet...could be from us manually selecting "Spin".
  2. There's and earth shattering but short squeel when the tub stops spinning. Sounds like a belt squeel.

Light Refurb:
  1. I replaced the water hoses with new 5/8" oversized water lines. I also cleaned the screens at the connection.
  2. I removed and cleaned out the agitator. It was filled/plugged with softener residue almost 3/8" thick in some places.
  3. Under the agitator, around the spindle, was an inch tall of fur mixed with soap residue. During cleaning I found 4 heavily rusted bolts. This area was cleaned as good as possible.
  4. No water was ever around the control/buttons. I used spray bottle, tooth brush, cloths, buffer, to clean the machine.
  5. 3 of the 4 feet were rusted frozen. I was able to clean and get them working again so they are adjustable.
  6. I could not replace the drain hose. It appears to be connected deep inside the machine. Seem to be OK.

I built a new utility room for Mother and went way over budget. I had no choice but to buy used appliances. This Atlantis washer/gas dryer were in exceptional condition. It has been hard to find units with literally no dents or scratches..not HE units, larger tub, etc. They clearly do not "work perfect" as the seller stated. In fact, the dryer had a load banging inside. Luckily we found a coin inside one of the dryer fins. We had to remove the front & top to access the bolts, loosen the fin, remove the penny.
