Just relocated from west coast to east coast and now my gas dryer does not work. I'll try to be specific and detailed as I can, but I'm a do-it-yourself with this being my 1st dryer fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have small children. Thanks in advance and God Bless!
Trouble shooting...
Kenmore Gas Dryer 417.94072301. Worked great before I left CA now it does not heat up.
Problem:
- Turn dryer on normal cycle and press start (this sets it at high heat and I've tried medium and low heat as well)
- The dryer start to tumble and a few seconds later the igniter starts to glow
- Once red hot (assumption as it turns orange/red like an electric stove burner) the igniter starts to cool down
(i.e. glow reduces until it goes back to normal color)
- Just as the ignitor starts to cool down a buzzzzzing sound starts for about 30-45 seconds (I'm assuming the coils trying to let gas in)
- Then the buzzzzing stops and the igniter starts its glowing process
- This repeats 3 times (about 4 minutes of running time) and then I turn it off as I'm not sure if the buzzzzing is bad for the dryer. I've done this several times so in total I've tried this about 5-6 times.
Things I've done
- Watched lots of videos on what to look for, but they seem to point to the coils and I've replaced them.
- Cleaned the entire unit of all dust
- Vent to outside is new and not blocked
- House Gas line is supplying gas to the beginning of the appliance as I opened the line until I smelt natural gas (strong smell)
- I've ohm'd the igniter - seems good according to repair clinic.com video
- I've ohm'd the flame sensor and the ohm meter shows 000.1 and beeps... so seams good according to repair clinic video
- I've replace the Gas Valve Solenoid coils I got from repair clinic (they come in a pair - two prong and a three prong) since I could not find a video on how to test them.
- I've ohm'd the Cycling Thermostat and that passes according to videos
- Lots of video's talk about testing the Thermal Fuse, but I can't find it on the Dyer nor on the manual not sure if this model has one
- I can not find a video for the main control board, but I'm assuming that works as the front panel works (i.e. tried all bottons and options) but do not know if that is a true test.
I hope that give a good idea of the situation. Let me know if you need any additional info to help. Tonight I'm going to try and follow the Dryer Tech Data Sheet I found inside the dryer. Seems there is a way control board 9 step testing with fault codes. I'll post the results.
Any Ideas on next steps beside order a very expensive control board?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Blessing to all.
