Whirpool gold bottom freezer leaking water, took first steps

My bottom freezer started leaking water from the bottom about a week ago. I noticed it was frozen around the bottom edge of the back panel and in the depression at the bottom of the freezer. I took apart the freezer and removed the back panel I poured hot water into the drain and let it sit until the water flushed through the drain pipe into the pan. I then took a turkey baster and flushed it with more hot water. I did not remove the back of the freezer and check the drain pan. The problem is now re-occuring as I can see ice build up around the drain pipe again. Is there any chance the fan that blows on the drain pan is dead? If so how can i check that? Any other suggestions are welcome also. Thanks.
