We purchased (at the recommedation of a Sears Expert who assured us that was the part we needed) the control board for my FTF2140ES0 front loading washing machine. We installed it and there is a peculiar thing happening: the Drain/Spin light up when the dial is pointed to that choice. The same for the Rinse/Spin/ Delicate and Hand Wash choices. However the lights do not light up for the Soak, Heavy, Normal, Perm Press, Quick and Sport choices. Symptoms were: at the choices of Soak, Heavy, Normal, Perm Press, Quick and Sport, when the the start button was pressed the light for "wash" did not light up and nothing happened to start a cycle. At first it only did tihs for the Normal choice, but after a few successful washes on Heavy or Perm Press even those choices stopped responding (I do not often use some of the choices). So this new board is not functioning correctly either. We made sure that the contacts were seated firmly.
There was included in the package with the new part was an "attention" "Testing has shown the "reed switch" is not needed on front loadwashers . (indeed on the new control board, where those pins would go, are not punched out and so I can not insert that part even if I wanted to). If the washer has a reed switch, disconnect it from the old board and discard (while I have not reconnected it, neither have I discarded it). Please explain to the customer opening the drawer will no longer disrupt the cycle of the washer." end of "attention". We are positive that this part noted was the switch mentioned. I replaced the modules methodically, indeed the plugs would only go in where they reached.
Here is something else we thought to try. We put the old control board back in and low and behold the same symptoms do happen. I also noticed the "control light" comes on when the choices that were not reponding are made. BUT one thing I did notice is I can NOT hit the cancel button and have that "control light go out. After a period of time they all go out. Thanks for listening...hope I am giving specific enough info for your diagnosis. Kat
