Whirlpool not adding water during wash cycle

Searched the forum but didn't find any issue that was exactly the same. Unit operates normally with the exception of not adding water during the wash cycle. Pre-wash and rinse cycles work OK. After you hear the detergent door pop open, the wash pump starts and the heater element kicks in and the unit goes through the entire wash cycle without water. It thinks it has water in it but doesn't. It will complete the wash cycle without water and then rinse normally.

I disconnected the power and reset the unit. It ran through the complete diagnostic cycle but I'm not sure how to tell if there were any issues with that.
