Maytag Side By Side Model # PSD2450GRW - Cooling Issue

Hello Forum:

I am new the forum and am having an issue with a Maytag side by side that is about 10 years old.

The fridge was my parents and they reported the fridge and freezer getting warm, so they opted to purchase a new side by side.

Looking to upgrade my families Fridge, I took this freebie with hopes to troubleshoot the problem.

After relocating to my garage after about 2 weeks of being powered down, I plugged this in last night.

After about 1 hr I was optimistic, the freezer was very cold and frost was developing on all the coils behind the access plate in the freezer.

No cold air was making it over to the fridge however.

After taking apart the control housing, I determined the control rod was not retracting to allow the damper door to open letting cool air to flow from the freezer.

I decide to continue to let the fridge to run with the control housing connected but in a dissembled state so the cool air could flow to the fridge.

I wanted to see if the freezer would freeze a bottle of water.

After another 10-15 minutes, the freezer began warming up and condensation forming on the bottle of water.

I left it run for another 30 mins, and it continued to blow warm air into the freezer/fridge.

The compressor got to be very warm, including both lines running to and from compressor.

Initially I suspected control assembly (item 3 below), but now wondering if there is another problem...

Any advice for further troubleshooting this issue?

Also.. I should mention over the past year or so, my parent have had trouble with the drip collector freezing up. They would simply defrost the tube and start back up and be fine for a few months, but it was an issue in the past year. Not sure if this was due to the defrost heater or heater controler... Not sure if that could be related to this problem as well.
