Old Habits

My wife decided to make cleaning the oven easier and placed aluminum foil on the bottom of the stove. For a while it was an old habit that caused no harm or apparent damage. Then we started noticing that the oven took longer to heat up and cook as well. I got to looking thinking it had to be something I could handle on my own, I always had on the other ovens we have had, that wasn't the case this time. We had switched to a wall oven and all my prior learned trial and error was out the window. So after some searching I landed here seeking advice and knowledge from others. My question(s) is did the foil that baked onto the oven ruin the element or did it trip some relay or just flat out burn something out? The rest of the oven works great its just the bake setting that is bad. I have removed all of the foil of the oven bottom took a while but its off. Any advice/knowledge would be very much appreciated.
