Hi,
My 17-year-old Kenmore 70 Series will no longer spin. Instead, during the spin cycle, there is a continuous loud clicking. After looking at the info on this site, I assumed my coupler was bad. However, all three pieces of the coupler are just fine. I reassembled and ran a test cycle, keeping the lid open and the lid switch closed.
Fills fine.
Agitates fine.
Drains fine; clicking starts here.
Won't spin; still clicking.
I tried the Heavy Duty and Permanent Press sections of the timer/switch; same result.
There is nothing stuck between the tubs.
When I had the motor off, I tried turning the piece of the coupler that was still mounted to the transmission. It turned easily enough, but neither the tub nor the agitator moved. If I turned the coupler far enough in one direction, I would get a few of the same clicks as during the spin cycle. It's probably the transmission that's bad, but I wanted to get some outside opinions before I ordered the part.
Thanks for your time, and for this helpful forum.
Paul
