GE Washer Top Loader Basic Model - Stuck Filling

Have a washer that just started getting stuck today several times filling at beginning or at rinse. The machine fills for wash cycle or refills for rinse but doesn't turn off. It just keeps filling until it overflows. I have tried it a couple of times and it just keeps filling and overflowing. Up until then it works fine. Any ideas how to fix myself?
