Twice now our oven has turned itself on even though the temp knob was turned to "OFF". The other knob was set on "Bake". I've been able to turn it off by twisting the temp knob back and forth several times ending at "off".
When it turns itself on, it stays on and gets very hot. There's no thermostat control, it just stays on.
My wife also noticed that lately the dial is about 25 degrees cool as to what a thermometer placed on a rack says.
Is it likely the assembly behind the temp knob is bad and allowing it to turn itself on? Is that considered the thermostat?
It's the weekend so how can I prevent this from happening again until I can get parts? Do I need to pull it out from the wall and turn the gas to the range off?
