"Unrepairable" refrigerators - how to not buy one?

I have an "unrepairable" 42-inch "Architect Series" KitchenAid frig bought in 2009 which will cost upwards of $7k to replace. "Unrepairable" because Kitchenaid no longer sells the replacement part (a small printed circuit board), and repair people sent it to a third-party "board repair" company that declared the board is unrepairable. Thus this 4-year old very expensive refrigerator is "unrepairable."

I have trouble believing KitchenAid can get away with such appalling "product support" but find the repair people experienced and credible. Repair people say this situation is now common with appliances.

So I need to pick out a replacement refrigerator, which is maybe standalone rather than built-in (that is, replacement doesn't need to be exactly like type), and I'm ready to accept that all refrigerators have ongoing problems soon after they are purchased (what choice do I have?).

I'd appreciate any advice on how to pick a brand that at least sells repair parts for a minimum of 10 years and hopefully longer. That is, I've reduced my expectations to hoping to only pay for a lot of repairs, and am merely looking for a brand that has some commitment to making that possible.

But I must grumble that cars have at least as much complexity as refrigerators, yet no mechanic would ever suggest that an intact 4-year-old car is "unrepairable."

Thanks for any and all advice...
