Whie/westinghouse washer won't cylce after replacing timer

I have a compact combo washer dryer Over/under
The machine started a cycle and stopped during the wash cycle and won't progress, plus it would only do that on the long wash cycle and no other

I figured it was the timer so I bought a brand new factory part on and nothing changed
You can turn the dial one click at a time and nothing happens other than the agitator works in the wash mode on one type setting and does not progress???
