My son has this (110.68942892) old Series 90 dryer and the thermal cut-off fuse keeps blowing. It will run one or two loads and then it goes out again. Since I have a newer model Series 90, I had experience replacing the thermal cut-off and high-limit thermostat.
This dryer has been running fine for a few years since he's owned it (it was a hand-me-down from his grandparents when he got this house). Then he noticed that it was not heating. The drum turns and the blower works, but no heat. I first replaced the thermal cut-off and high-limit. He got through one load just fine, but on the second load, again, the cut-off blew again. Got a new one, and after replacing it, we vacuumed everything out. Running the dryer with no heat, I checked the exhaust vent on the outside of the house. It seemed to be pushing the right amount of air (as compared to mine). I bought a new one anyway. We disconnected the hose from the old vent and from the dryer, then I used an electric leaf blower to blow out the hose from the dryer side. He was outside and said that there wasn't very much lint that came through. Installed the new exhaust vent and hooked the hose back up. Started the dryer and confirmed that the vent was exhausting about the same amount of air as mine. He got through one or two loads (not sure as he has two roommates), then, again, found that there was no heat.
This time, in addition to replacing the cut-off and high-limit, I also replaced the heating element. Two loads later, same thing; no heat. :wall:
After reading some threads here, it looks like my next step is to replace the thermistor on the blower cage. And of course, replace the cut-off again. I'm also going to verify that the 220v plug is OK.
If that doesn't work, what's my next step? I'm about ready to throw in the towel (although it will still be wet) and call Sears to come fix it. I'm just not looking forward to the cost of that service call.
Thanks for any tips!
