The top of most ranges opens easily with a putty knife pushing back two springs between the top and the control panel. Not so this Kenmore.
1. Remove three cooking grates.
2. Remove five burner tops.
3. Using a 3/16 inch socket driver or socket wrench remove the four corner burners. Lift off the center burner.
4. Using a 1/4 inch socket driver or socket wrench remove the screws at the four corner burners.
5. Remove five burner knobs and round black rubber spacers.
6. The next three steps involve three different types of screw. Identify each and keep separate. All are positioned pointing upward.
7. Open oven door and remove two chrome Phillips screws holding front panel. Remove front panel.
8. Remove two self-tapping Phillips screws securing the steel bracket at each side of range.
9. Remove two black Phillips sheet metal screws securing the white porcelain top.
10. Carefully remove top.
The burners and spark ignition system are now accessible.
Reverse these steps to re-install range top.
