I have a Kenmore HE2t front-loading washer (Model #110.47571600) which I purchased new in July 2007. Until today, it worked well. My wife pulled some blankets out of the adjacent dryer, apparently generating static electricity. She then touched the power button on the HE2t, and received a small electrical shock. Now, the HE2t power button turns the power on as normal, but the washer will only run in the five modes (Handwash, Silk/Delicate, Soak, Rinse/Drain, & Clean Washer) that are located clockwise of the 12 o'clock position on the cycle selector dial (the cycle selector dial appears to be operating properly). If one of the other modes (e.g., Express Wash, Normal/Casual, etc.) is selected, the washer will not respond to the Start button; likewise, when one of the other modes is selected, pushing the power button does not shut off the power on the display (the display responds normally when one of the five modes clockwise of the 12 o'clock position are selected). I have tried unplugging the washer, letting it sit for 5-10 minutes, then plugging it back in, but this does not make any difference. The display panel looks normal -- no error codes appear, and the correct period of time for each cycle mode appears when the cycle selector is turned to that mode. Can the CCU be damaged by a static electricity shock? The transparent plastic skin is missing over the power button (it broke away long ago), but the underlying plastic skin is intact.
