Our Atlantis has been very noisy at agitate and spin cycles for about a year; this past weekend it got noticeably louder then at the end of the complete wash cycle, the tub didn't drain. I could turn the timer and make it spin, but it wouldn't drain. I checked all the usual suspects: belt, pump, impeller, clogged line, lid switch etc., and all checked out. So I vacuumed the water out and downloaded a service manual. Found that the pump only removes water in one direction, that direction is determined by which way the motor is turning, and that is determined by the polarity delivered from the timer. Disconnected the timer and it checked continuity with Fluke88 guided by the timer sequence chart; looks to me like there's continuity when and where there should be, but I don't know how to check polarity.
Question: Is there anything that could be connected to failure of bearing(s) and or transmission (presumably the source of the noise we've been hearing) that could cause the motor to only turn in one direction? The coincidence of the noise getting louder then the no drain situation is just to great for me to ignore. Or do I have problems with bearings/transmission AND timer???
Thanks in advance,
John
