Filter Leaks

My filter has begun to leak (only when/after water is dispensed). When I take the filter out, I notice water will leak out of the filter from the lower right (as viewed from the front) outlet. Am I correct in believing that the water comes into the filter via the left (front view) inlet, goes through the charcoal filters and out the right outlet? Should there be anything to stop the water going out the right outlet?
