Hi,
I have a GE Nautilus GSC3400J00WW portable dishwasher that is approximately 6 or 7 years old. Recently, my dishes have been coming out with a white chalky film on them. I had been using it without rinsing agent for a while with no problem but figured it was time to start using jet dry again and give the whole thing a cleaning since I do have hard water here. I ran it once empty with Lemishine & jet dry. Then again but loaded, with a combination of Cascade & Lemishine per lemishine instructions. Everything seemed to be fine. Then a few nights ago I went to load it and noticed mold or mildew growing in the bottom of the dishwasher. This has never happened before and I live in a very dry climate. I cleaned the bottom, took off the sump entrance screen and cleaned it (it had mold growing on it) and also removed the filter which was clean & not clogged at all. The well that's under the sump entrance screen was full of moldy water but there did not seem to be any obstructions in there. I then ran the dishwasher empty with the bottom rack removed with 2 cups of white vinegar in the bottom per manufacturer instructions to make sure all the mold was dead. I ran it on "heavy wash" "hot start" "hi temp wash" & "heated dry" all selected. I ran it like this a second time but with a bowl full of vinegar in the top rack for a thorough cleaning. Now there is about 1 cm or so of water left in the bottom of the tub and under the sump entrance screen is full. I have never noticed this much water in it before after using it. This is plenty to cause mold growth especially since it doesn't get used everyday but I'm not sure if this is "normal" or not. It seems like it wouldn't be normal and like the draining is ending too soon. I tried to set it to drain mid cycle between rinse & drying but nothing came out of the hose and it seems like the same amount of water is still in there. I don't think the hose or anything else is clogged because I think a lot more water would be in there if that were the case.
Does this sound like the piston problem so frequently discussed here? Or is it normal to have that much water left over after use? Like I said, I never noticed before but I also haven't necessarily looked that closely. The mold is what caught my attention & got me to realize there was standing water in there. I would think if there was water like this before, I would have had mold as well, which has never happened.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Sorry for being so long winded I just wanted to give all the background info. Filter is clean. Sump entrance is clean/clear afaik. Don't know how to get to the hose end where it connects to the dishwasher as this is a portable/convertible & is enclosed. What should I do/look for next?
Thanks in advance.
