The ice maker flap door on my Whirlpool Gold side-by-side was hanging loose so I bought the repair kit for it. Luckily, the two plastic tabs were not broken. After installing all parts in the kit, the right side hinge kept popping out when activating the paddle. I determined this was being caused by to much drag from the soft close piston/cylinder arrangement. I decided to try to remove the rubber "piston ring" from the piston and now the door works fine...of course, without the "soft close" action. But now, the ice maker won't "motor" when the paddle is pushed. This is in both cube and crushed mode. I re-bought this fridge from an ex and I know the flap had been loose for a while. The ice maker would "motor" though. What may be causing this? Will door flap work equally well without the piston cylinder ring?
